A cornerstone laying ceremony for a new control tower took place at Dushanbe International Airport (DIA) yesterday.

Loiq Ashourov, Director General of the State Unitary Tajikaeronavigatsiya (Tajik air navigation), noted that construction of the control tower “is one of important steps of cooperation between the friendly countries.”

“French specialists have developed the project taking into consideration opinions of the Tajik side,” Ashourov stressed.

The Ministry of Defense of France is sponsoring the construction of this significant strategic facility and French company Enterprise Marc Meunier will build the control tower at the Dushanbe airport.

Speaking at the cornerstone laying ceremony, France’ Ambassador to Tajikistan, Ms. Yasmin Guedar, noted that the new control tower is a gift of the French people to Tajikistan.

Tajik Civil Aviation Agency Director Ikrom Subhonzoda and Deputy Transport Minister Sherali Ganjalzoda expressed gratitude to the French side for the facility.

Recall, a government-to-government agreement between Tajikistan and France on construction of the control tower at the Dushanbe airport was signed in Dushanbe on July 13, 2015.

The document was inked by the then Minister of Transport of Tajikistan Sherali Ganjalzoda and the then Ambassador of France to Tajikistan Didier Leroy.

An agreement on construction of a 36-meter control tower at the Dushanbe airport was reportedly reached in Dushanbe in February 2013.
