An official launch of the first unit of the roghun hydroelectric power plant (HPP) is expected to take place today evening, at 6:00 pm. Tajik President Emomali Rahmon will unveil the first facility of the plant.
High-ranking officials from foreign countries, including nations participating in the CASA 1000 Project, and senior representatives of diplomatic missions and international organizations active in Tajikistan, will attend the event.
Among them are Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Afghanistan, Khyal Mohammad Mohammad Khan, Minister of Water Resources of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Hamrayev, Deputy Minister of Energy of Russia, Andrey Cherezov, Italian Deputy Foreign Minister, Manlio Di Stefano, and Vice-President of the World Bank, Cyril Muller.
The second unit of the Roghun hydropower plant is expected to be introduced into operation in April next year. The last sixth unit of the plant will be introduced into operation in 2028, when plant’s dam will reach the planned height of 335 meters.
If built as planned, the Roghun dam will have a capacity of 3600 MW.
