A 23-year-old road-hog, who killed a sweeper in a hit-and-run accident, has been taken under custody.

The 23-year-old Bakhtovar Solehov, who killed a female sweeper in the hit-and-run accident in Dushanbe in the night of February 4, has been taken under custody, an official source at the Tajik law enforcement authorities told Asia-Plus today morning.

According to him, criminal proceedings have been instituted against Bakhtovar Solehov under the provisions of Article 108 of Tajikistan’s Penal Code - negligent homicide (a criminal charge brought against a person who, through criminal negligence, allows another person to die).

The charge brought against Bakhtovar Solehov carries up to two years in prison under Tajikistan’s Penal Code. 

Recall, the accident took place on the Ayni Street at around 1:00 am.  Toyota Land Cruiser driven by Bakhtovar Solehov hit the 46-year-old Savriniso Karimova who was sweeping the street.  Solehov fled the scene of the accident.

The woman died on the way to hospital.  She left behind four children, while her husband died four years ago.

Bakhtovar Solehov was reportedly detained by police on February 5.
