U.S. President Donald Trump yesterday announced intent to nominate and appoint John Mark Pommersheim to the post of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States to Tajikistan. 

John Mark Pommersheim, a career member of the Senior Foreign Office, has served as an American diplomat since 1990.  He is currently serves as Deputy Chief of Mission of the United States in Astana, Kazakhstan.  Previously, Mr. Pommersheim had served as Consular General/Principal Officer at the United States Consulate in Vladivostok, Russia and at six United States Missions overseas, including n China and Japan.

He earned a B.A. from Bucknell University, M.A from Columbia University, and studied at the Pushkin Russian State Language Institute on a Department of Defense scholarship.

Mr. Pommersheim is recipient of ten Department of State performance awards               

Mr. Pommersheim speaks Russian, German, Japanese, and Chinese.
