Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation on December 29, according to the Tajik president’s official website.  

Rahmon and Putin reportedly congratulated each other on the coming New Year and wished further prosperity and well-being to their countries in the next year.  

Emomali Rahmon pointed out Vladimir Putin’s contribution to development and deepening of relations between Tajikistan and Russia as well as strategic partnership and alliance between the two nations.  

Both leaders noted that further joint work on expansion of bilateral collaboration between Tajikistan and the Russian Federation would serve the interests of the peoples of both countries and was an important factor in providing regional stability and security.  

Rahmon and Putin vowed to promote further expansion of cooperation between their countries in all areas in 2019, the Tajik president’s website said.  

They reportedly also exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues being of mutual interest.
