Tajik President Emomali Rahmon has congratulated Olaf Scholz on being elected as the Federal Chancellor of Germany.

Emomali Rahmon sent two cables – one to ex-Chancellor Angela Merkel and another one to new Germany Chancellor Olaf Scholz, the Tajik president’s official website said on December 11.

In his message to Angela Merkel, Tajik leader, in particular, noted, “Remembering with warmth our meetings and conversations, I would like to emphasize that I consider your contribution to the strengthening and expansion of relationships between Germany and Tajikistan, friendship and multifaceted cooperation significant.”

Rahmon expressed gratitude to ex-Chancellor for sincere friendship, trust and fruitful cooperation and expressed the hope that the traditions of good relations and partnership between the two countries will continue.

In his message of congratulations to new Germany Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Emomali Rahmon noted that Tajikistan is interested in further expansion of friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation with Germany, one of the key nations of the European Union.  “In this context, we stand for further deepening and expansion of the bilateral cooperation in all areas being of mutual interest,” reads the message.

Olaf Scholz was elected as Germany’s new Chancellor on December 8, bringing to an end Angela Merkel’s 16 years of leadership.

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Federal Republic of Germany were established on 28 February 1992.
