Presided over by President Emomali Rahmon, who is also the Head of the Government, an enlarged government session took place in Dushanbe yesterday to review the results of the past year's work.

The Tajik president’s official website says the session reviewed the results of socio-economic activities carried out in the country last year and determined the main tasks for this year.

The session participants reportedly included members of the government, president’s executive office, top managers of the country’s enterprises and agencies, governors of provinces, districts and cities, heads of higher educational institutions, directors of project implementation units, top managers of state-run and commercial banks, editors-in-chief of state-run media outlets and other officials.  

Prime Minister Qohir Rasoulzoda reported on the results of the socioeconomic development of the country in 2021.  

He, in particular, noted that more than 25,000 industrial and social facilities were commissioned in Tajikistan last year.  

 

Macroeconomics and finances

According to him, the gross domestic product for 2021 was 98.9 billion somonis, an increase of 9.2 percent over last year in comparable prices.  

Last year, the revenue part of the country’s budget stood at 29.5 billion somonis, which is 1.3 billion somonis more than it was originally planned, he prime minister said, noting that 309 new industrial enterprises and workshops were introduced into operation in 2021. 

 

Energy and agriculture

He also noted that 16.6 billion somonis worth of projects aimed at ensuring the sustainable development of the energy sector are currently being implemented in Tajikistan.  

In 2021, generation of electricity increased in Tajikistan by 4.3 percent or 853 million kWh compared to the previous year.  

Last year’s gross agricultural product from all categories of farms was 39.7 billion somonis (in current prices) and increased by 10.6 percent compared to 2020. 

 

Investment climate and entrepreneurship

The prime minister noted that over the first nine months of last year, the amount of foreign investment in Tajikistan increased 1.6 times compared to 2020.  Over the reporting period, investment in the country’s fixed capital was 14.7 billion somonis, an increase of 23.3 percent compared to 2020. 

According to him, a number of measures have been taken by the government in recent years to support entrepreneurship and improve the investment climate in the country.  Tax and customs benefits have been granted to support development of domestic production, Rasoulzoda noted.

He further noted that measures taken by the government over the reporting period have allowed implementing a total of 42 billion somonis worth of 78 state investment projects.
