DUSHANBE, February 3, 2011, Asia-Plus -- An expert meeting to discuss harmonization of the labor migration legislation in the framework of regional cooperation took place in Dushanbe on February 2, according to the Migration Service under the Government of Tajikistan.
Organized by the International Organization for Migration (IOM)’s Mission in Tajikistan and the “Imran” Center for Socioeconomic Development and Protection of Human Rights, the meeting brought together heads of a number of relevant ministries and organizations as well as representatives of public associations and international organizations to consider the labor migration problems, including the key aspects of regulation of Tajikistan’s external labor migration.
The source said the main objective of the expert meeting was to review Tajikistan’s legal foundation of management of migration processes in the context of exposing the problem aspects and drawing up recommendations on them.
The migration law and bilateral migration agreements were the focus of the meeting. The meeting participants noted that the country’s migration legislation required improvement.
The working group reviewed and coordinated general basic recommendations on improvement of the legal foundation of he country’s migration policy, the source added.
