Russia will continue to provide support for the Committee on Emergency Situations and Civil Defense (CES) under the Government of Tajikistan.

According to the CES press center, Grigory Ustinov, an official with Russia’s Foreign minister, has remarked this at a meeting with the CES head Rustam Nazarzoda.

Russian Ambassador to Tajikistan Igor Lyakin-Frolov has reportedly also attended the meeting.

Nazarzoda and Ustinov reportedly discussed issues related to the progress of implementation of the project, Strengthening Preparedness and Response Capacity, which is being financed by the Russian Federation within the frameworks of UNDP Trust Fund for Development. 

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Ustinov, in particular, noted that disaster risk reduction and preparedness for emergencies, disaster response and early warning are among priorities of UNDP Trust Fund for Development.

“We will continue providing assistance to friendly Tajikistan within the frameworks of the project,” Russian official added.  

The main objective of the Strengthening Preparedness and Response Capacity Project is in building the capacities of Tajikistan’s Committee on Emergency Situations and Civil Defense in preparedness to disaster response operations.

The project outcomes include i) establishing a Unified Emergency Preparedness and Response System for emergency situations and ii) strengthening the search and rescue capacities of the CES Search-and Rescue Department, including human capacities and technical resource base, so that search and rescue works are undertaken in a timely and efficient fashion.
