Anisa Sabiri has received the Best Director Award of the 3rd Annual Imagine This Women's International Film Festival (ITWIFF) for The Crying of Tanbur film.

Victory at This Women's International Film Festival will allow Anisa Sabiri to introduce The Crying of Tanbur to the United States market and give her the right of distribution.

The film tells the story of maturation of a 12-year-ol boy in the post-Soviet Tajikistan in the early 1990s.

Many in Tajikistan were killed, injured, or disappeared in 1993 due to the civil war. Umed’s father is among the missing, after leaving to report on the war.  One day a letter is delivered, and Umed reads it in silence.

The 3rd Annual Imagine This Women's International Film Festival took place in New York from November 9 to November 11.

The three-day event featured screenings, Q&As, opening night mixer, and a closing award ceremony.

ITWIFF 2018 reportedly showcased over 20 hand-selected films from all over the world from women filmmakers and storytellers.
