UNFPA, United Nations Population Fund in Uzbekistan, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Women''s Committee of Uzbekistan, Kelajak Ovozi Youth Initiatives Centre and National Association of Electronic Mass Media of Uzbekistan, organized celebration of International Youth Day on August 12 by conducting Youth Event that included presentations by active youth representatives, theater performance by Y-PEER youth network and concert with participation of popular Uzbek pop stars for over 100 persons.
This holiday was accepted by the UN General Assembly in 1999 and is being celebrated in Uzbekistan for the third time. This day is targeted at attracting attention to youth activities and reminds that young people play great role in the future of each country, UNFPA in Uzbekistan said in its press release.
The theme for this year''s observance of International Youth Day is "Youth and climate change: time for action". Today''s young people will bear the consequences of climate change, thanks to the unfortunate legacy of their elders.
