Speaking at an expanded government meeting on 15 January, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov set tasks for the government of Turkmenistan for 2009in the sphere of industry and fuel-energy sector. They are as follows:
- natural gas extraction should reach 75 bn cubic meters, and gas exports should meet contractual obligations;
- oil extraction should reach 10.9 million tonnes;
- power generation should reach 15.8 bn kWh, with 2,6 bn kWh for export purposes;
- production of mineral fertilizers should reach 805,300 tonnes;
- reconstruction of facilities producing carbamide and ammonium at the Maryazot production association should be completed;
- construction of a potash fertilizer plant in Lebap province should start;
- two iodine and bromine production units should be constructed at the Balkan iodine plant;
- the construction industry should be fully supplied with construction materials produced locally, i.e. to increase production of non-metallic materials to 9,964 mln cubic meters; concrete constructions to 245,6 thousand cubic meters; haydite to 57,5 thousand cubic meters.
