A two-day training course to enhance Kazakhstani prosecutors'' knowledge of international legal instruments related to co-operation in criminal matters started in Astana today, the press center of OSCE reported.
The event brought together 25 prosecutors from different regions of Kazakhstan.International legal experts shared their experiences with international legal instruments and their practical application, during the course, which was organized by the OSCE Centre in Astana and the Kazakh Institute of the Prosecutor General
Jeanette Kloetzer, the Deputy Head of the OSCE Centre in Astana, said: "Today''s event represents an important part of a broad program of co-operation between the OSCE Centre in Astana and Kazakhstan''s law enforcement authorities. We intend to develop this co-operation even further by focusing more on Kazakhstan''s regions."
Juan Selles Ferreiro, a senior judge of the Spanish criminal court in La Coruna, discussed the Spanish legal system, the use and oversight of various investigative techniques and the implementation of fundamental European treaties on legal assistance in criminal cases.
Olga Zudova, the Senior Legal Adviser for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in Central Asia, addressed best practices and the challenges of implementing the provisions on mutual legal assistance of UN conventions on corruption, organized crime and drugs trafficking.
Garifulla Utibaev, the Director of the Institute of the Prosecutor General, added: "It is necessary to co-operate closely by exchanging of experiences and perspectives on a wide range of issues, and to consolidate the work of law enforcement authorities and international organizations in the fight against trans-national organized crime."
