Kazakhstan together with China will construct Nurabad hydroelectric station-1 in the east of Tajikistan, Kazakh ambassador in Tajikistan Abutalip Akhmetov reported. Agreement on Kazakh participation in the project was reached in the end of last year, he noted.

Agreement on construction of "Nurabad-1" hydroelectric station on Khingob river with a capacity of 350 megawatt was signed between Tajikistan and Chinese company "TBEA" in the beginning of this June in Dushanbe. Construction of the station, which will start next year, will cost US $560 million.

Talking about participation of Kazakh side in further construction of Rogun hydroelectric station diplomat noted that "we are ready to participate in this project in frames of international consortium, but it was not formed yet."

Kazakhstan is very interested and will participate in construction of railways and highways on the territory of Tajikistan, he added. "This is a direct way from us through Tajikistan to ports of Indian ocean. Today our cargoes are transported on a long way through Caspian Sea and Persian Gulf," he stated.

Talking about future chairmanship of Kazakhstan in OSCE (from January 2010) he emphasized that this became possible due to consolidated support of all 12 countries-members of CIS.
