DUSHANBE, April 22, 2016, Asia-Plus Kazakh – Radio Liberty reports that Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev has signed a bill allowing the use of chemical castration to punish convicted pedophiles.

Nazarbayev''s press service said the legislation was signed into law on April 21.  It had been approved by parliament in March.

Kazakh lawmakers said earlier that chemical castration does not involve any surgery.  It consists of a man being injected with drugs that effectively blunt his sex drive for a period of time.

The decision on chemical castration will be made by courts.
