DUSHANBE, September 17 Asia-Plus -- Seven judo players from Tajikistan took part in the 2007 World Judo Championships that were held at Arena Olimpica in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from September 13 to September 16.
The 2007 Judo World Championships that were the 25th edition of the Judo Championships brought together some 700 male and female athletes from 140 countries, who contended not only first places in this sports event but also right to participate in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
According to Tajikistan’s National Olympic Committee (NOC), Olimjon Zikayev (60 kg), Rustam Boqiyev (66 kg), Rasoul Boqiyev (73 kg), Sherali Bozorov (81 kg), Nematullo Asronqulov (90 kg), Alisher Boqiyev (100 kg) and Aminjon Khonov (+100 kg) represented Tajikistan in this sports event.
Vamarij Murodov, a spokesman for the Tajik NOC, said that six top athletes in each weight category will get the right to participate in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
