DUSHANBE, November 15, Asia-Plus -- Mr. Krzysztof Krukowski Director, Organizational Development, Special Olympics Europe/Eurasia, has been on a three-day visit to Dushanbe.
Ms. Dilbar Sharipova, Director, Special Olympics Tajikistan, told Asia-Plus that the main purpose of the visit is for Mr. Krukowski to discuss with Tajik authorities preparation of Dushanbe for hosting the 2008 Central Asian Special Olympics Games.
The Special Olympics Europe/Eurasia official has already held a number of talks with senior representatives from Tajikistan National Olympic Committee (NOC) and Committee for Youth’s Affairs, Sports and Tourism on this subject. During his stay in Dushanbe, Krukowski familiarized himself with state of the Dushanbe stadiums and noted that the Tajik capital is ready as a whole to host the Games.
The first Central Asian Special Olympics Games were held in Kazakhstan in 2003.
Special Olympics is an international nonprofit organization* dedicated to empowering individuals with intellectual disabilities to become physically fit, productive and respected members of society through sports training and competition. Special Olympics offers children and adults with intellectual disabilities year-round training and competition in 30 Olympic-type summer and winter sports. Special Olympics currently serves 2.5 million people with intellectual disabilities in more than 200 programs in 165 countries.
