DUSHANBE, August 11, 2008, Asia-Plus -- Rasoul Boqiyev, one the top judoka in Tajikistan in the -73 kg category and ranked No 3 in the world in his weight category, who claimed his Olympic berth by finishing third at the 2007 World Judo Championships in Rio de Janeiro, has ensured at least one bronze medal for Tajikistan’s team in the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, beating Chinese judo player Shi Rijigawa (phonetically spelled) 10-0 in quarterfinal on August 10, according to Tajikistan’s National Olympic Committee (NOC).
In the semifinal, Rasoul Boqiyev will meet Wang Ki-chun, a 19-year-old judoka from the republic of Korea, today.
Wang Ki-chun beat 2004 Athens champion Lee Won-hee in the 2007 World Championships and according to international experts, he may be poised to improve on that impressive performance with Olympic gold.
