DUSHANBE, September 23, 2010, Asia-Plus -- Tajikistan’s National Olympic Committee (NOC) has handed over grant certificates to medal winners in the I Summer Youth Olympic Games that took place in Singapore on August 14-26.
On September 23, a certificate of US$5,000 grant was handed over to Bahodur Qodirov, who grabbed the silver medal for Tajikistan, finishing second the men’s freestyle wrestling 63 kilogram competition and a certificate of US$3,000 grant was handed over Shukrona Sharifova, who won the bronze medal in the women’s taekwon-do (WTF) 44 kilogram competition.
We will recall that in the team event, Tajikistan with two medals (one silver and one bronze) has been ranked 64th among 89 nations participating in the I Summer Youth Olympic Games in Singapore. In all, six athletes represented Tajikistan in the Youth Olympic Games.
The 2010 Summer Youth Olympic Games was the inaugural event of the Summer Youth Olympics, a major international sports and cultural festival to be celebrated in the tradition of the Summer Olympic Games. The Youth Olympic Games features athletes between the ages of 14 and 18.
Besides, NOC today concluded sponsorship agreements with 15 athletes of Tajikistan. Among them are Dilshod Nazarov (athletics), Yusuf Abdusalmovo (freestyle wrestling), Murod Tuychiyev (Greco-Roman wrestling), Farhod Anorqulov (freestyle wrestling), Bahodur Qodirov (freestyle wrestling), Rasoul Boqiyev (judo), Muhammadmurod Abdurahmonov (judo), Sherali Bozorov (judo), Mavzouna Choriyeva (boxing), Jahon Qurbonov (boxing), Anvar Yunusov (boxing), Alisher Gulov (taekwon-do), Sergey Babikov (shooting), Firouza Zubaydova (archery), and Nizom Sangov (weight lifting).
