DUSHANBE, August 7, Asia-Plus - State and prospects of further expansion of Tajik-Pakistani cooperation were discussed at a meeting of Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev, the head of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament), with Pakistan’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Tajikistan Ikramullah Meksud in Dushanbe on August 4.

Shavkat Saidov, aide to the Majlisi Milli speaker for relations with media and NGOs, has told Asia-Plus that in the course of the talks the two exchanged views on various aspects of mutually beneficial cooperation between Tajikistan and Pakistan that had been discussed during a visit of chairman of Pakistan ’s Senate Muhammad Mian Sumra to Tajikistan .  

During the meeting Ubaidulloyev pointed the significance of launch of joint ventures, creation of transportation infrastructure, including the construction of bridge and regional roads, and workout of a project aimed at the construction of railway from Tajikistan to Afghanistan and Pakistan , according to Shavkat Saidov. 

“In this connection, the first move could be opening of Pakistani commerce-exhibition center in the Tajik capital,” Saidov quoted Ubaidulloyev as saying.  

The meeting also focused on a forthcoming trip of the Majlisi Milli speaker to Pakistan for making arrangements for the next meeting of the International Conference on the development of power infrastructure in South and Central Asia , which is scheduled to be held in Dushanbe in October this year, according to Shavkat Saidov.
