DUSHANBE, May 23, 2013, Asia-Plus – Business Insider has prepared the list of the 20 worst airlines for flying economy in the world and Tajikistan’s flag carrier airline, Tajik Air, with 43.3 scores has been ranked ninth on this list.

The Aviation Safety Network (ASN) (website that keeps track of aviation accidents, incidents, and hijackings) notes that the latest fatal air crash took place in 1997; all 79 passengers and six of seven crew members died in that crash.  Two fatal air crashes that took place in 1993 reportedly left more than 120 dead.

Turkmen national air carrier with 30.8 scores is at the top of the list.  It is followed by Sudan Airways (33.3 scores).  Ukraine International Airlines (36.3) is ranked 3rd.  It is followed by Uzbekistan Airways (Uzbekistan), Air Koryo (North Korea), Bulgaria Air (Bulgaria), Rossiya Airline (Russia), Iceland Express (Iceland), and Tajik Air (Tajikistan).  Syrian national air carrier, Syrian Air, with 44.8 scores is ranked 10th.

Business Insider reportedly ranked the 20 worst airlines for flying economy in the world, based on the most unpleasant in-flight experiences.

To compile this list, it looked at dozens of major international airlines that fly long-haul routes and have economy class seats.  It looked at ratings (scored on a scale of one to five) from leading airline reviewer Skytrax for seat comfort, in-flight entertainment, cabin cleanliness and condition, quality of meals served, and service efficiency.  Business Insider included passenger reviews for each airline (scored out of ten) also from Skytrax.

It reportedly adjusted each measure to be out of 100, and averaged them to produce a final score that reflects the overall in-flight experience.  Ratings are out of 100 points.

Tajik Air (Tajikistan Airlines) is the national airline of Tajikistan.  The airline has its main hub at the Dushanbe airport, and it retains a secondary focus point at the Khujand airport.

The company started operations on September 3, 1924 as Tajik Aviation. Its first route was Bukhara to Dushanbe, served by Junkers F-13 aircraft.  It is the sixth oldest airline still in operation.

Tajik Air now serves the following destinations: China (Urumqi); Iran (Tehran, Mashhad); Kazakhstan (Almaty); Kyrgyzstan (Bishkek); Russia (Irkutsk, Moscow, Novosibirsk, St Petersburg, Samara, Sochi, Surgut, and Yekaterinburg); Tajikistan (Khorog and Khujand); and United Arab Emirates (Sharjah).
