In a report released at a news conference in Dushanbe, the Minister of Transport Azim Ibrohim revealed on February 3 that the coronavirus pandemic has caused 300 million somonis worth of damage to Tajikistan’s transportation sector. 

According to him, the automotive transportation was hit hardest by the coronavirus pandemic.  The damage caused by the pandemic to the automotive transportation has reportedly exceeded 272 million somonis.

The remaining 28.9 million somonis damage has reportedly been caused to the rail passenger services. 

At the same time, the minister noted the increase in railway freight shipping last year.

According to him, 6.3 million tons of freight were shipped by Tajik Railways (Tajik state railway company) in 2020, including 5.8 million tons of international freight shipping.  

Azim Ibrohim further noted that 10 investment projects in a total amount of 618.5 million U.S. dollars are currently being implemented in the country’s transportation sector.
