A trilateral meeting of governors of border regions of Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan took place in Fergana, the capital of Fergana region in eastern Uzbekistan, on April 22, according to press center of the Sughd governor’s office.

The meeting participants included  Tajikistan’s Sughd Province Governor (Rajabboy Ahmadzoda) Kyrgzstan’s Batken Region Governor (Omurbek Suvanaliyev) and Uzbekistan’s Fergana Region Governor (Khairulla Bozorov).

The parties reportedly spoke in favor of expanding economic, cultural and scientific ties between the border regions of the three countries.  

Sughd governor, in particular, stressed that thanks to the policies pursued by the leaders of Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan relations between the three countries are at a new stage of development, and the sides can use existing opportunities for further expansion of cooperation.  

Speaking at the meeting, Ahmadzoda also briefed the meeting participants on economic achievements of Sughd province and noted that there is still considerable room for expansion of economic ties between the border regions of the here nations.  He outlined sectors like industry and agriculture that could drive trade between the three regions.

On the same day, a trilateral business forum entitled “Integration of Border Regions - the Key to Development” took place at Fergana Regional Theater named after Islam Karimov.   

Regional administrators of Sughd, Fergana and Batken as well as representatives of business communities of the three regions participated in the forum.  

In a statement delivered at the forum, Rajabboy Ahmadzoda noted that Sughd province is ready to participate in implementation joint investment projects.

It was noted that the forum laid a real foundation for expansion of economic and cultural cooperation between the regions.  

The forum reportedly ended with signing of memoranda on cooperation between Sughd province and Fergana region, between Tajik city of Konibodom and Besharik district of Uzbekistan, Tajik city of Guliston and Buvaida district of Uzbekistan, Tajik city of Isfara and Uzbekistan district of Uzbekistan’s Fergana region, between Tajik city of Buston and Uzbek district of Uchkuprik, Tajikistan’s Bobojon-Ghafourov district and Dangara district of Uzbekistan.
