Tajikistan continues to strengthen its position on the global tourism map. According to the Agency for Statistics under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, nearly 1.4 million foreign tourists visited the country in the first nine months of 2025 — a 24% increase compared to the same period last year.
From January to September 2025, a total of 1,388,800 foreign nationals entered the country, up from 1,118,500 the year before. Of these, 1,258,100 came from CIS countries, while 130,700 arrived from non-CIS (foreign) states.
Where the tourists came from
Among neighboring countries, Uzbekistan led the way, accounting for 835,800 tourists, or 55% of the total.
Besides, residents of the following CIS member nations have visited Tajikistan over the same nine-month period:
- Russia — 414,400 visitors
- Kyrgyzstan — 97,600
- Kazakhstan — 28,600
- Turkmenistan — 4,800
- Belarus — 2,300
- Ukraine — 2,500
- Azerbaijan and Moldova — 1,400 each
- Armenia — 300
Among countries beyond the CIS, the top contributors were:
· China — 30,400 visitors
· Afghanistan — 13,900
· Iran — 11,000
· USA — 10,300
· Germany — 6,700
· Turkiye — 5,100
In January-September this year, tourists also came from India, Italy, France, Japan, South Korea, and Canada.
Tourism Infrastructure
In the first half of 2025, Tajikistan was home to 182 registered travel companies. A total of 219 hotels were in operation, including 27 four-star and 162 three-star establishments.
The sector employed over 4,000 people, and the total volume of services provided amounted to 168.2 million somonis.
According to the Agency for Statistics, interest in Tajikistan as a travel destination continues to grow steadily, particularly among neighboring Central Asian countries.
Notably, Tajikistan was recently named one of the world’s most inspiring travel destinations by Lonely Planet. In its Best in Travel guide, the country was recognized as a top destination for hiking and wild camping, further boosting interest in its natural and cultural offerings.
