DUSHANBE, August 18, Asia-Plus -- A strong earthquake measuring 6.0 on t on the 12-point scale struck Dushanbe today afternoon, at about 4:45 p.m., according to information from the Republican Seismological Station.   

Person on duty at the Seismological Station has told Asia-Plus that the tremors epicenter was some 10-15 kilometers southeast of the Tajik capital, near the settlement of Lohur in the Rudaki district.  In the epicenter, the quake’s magnitude was 6.5 on the 12-point scale, according to him.   

The source in the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) says that according to the preliminary, no damage or injured was reported.  

We will recall that two devastating earthquakes measuring from 5.0 to 6.0 on the 12-point scale shook the Qumsangir district, Khatlon province.  Three persons were killed and some twenty others were injured by the Qumsangir earthquake. The epicenter of the quake was 145 kilometers south of Dushanbe.  According to the preliminary data, a damage caused by the quakes amounted to some 60 million Somonis.
