All highways connecting Dushanbe and the country’s regions have reopened to traffic, according to the Emergencies Committee.

“The road connecting Khorog and the Ishkashim district was cleared of snow on weekends, and today, only the road connecting the administrative center of the Rushan district and the Bartang Valley is still closed for traffic as a series of avalanches blocked it in several places,” Ms. Umeda Yusufi, a spokeswoman for the Emergencies Committee told Asia-Plus in an interview.

Although all the country’s highways have reopened to traffic, the Emergencies Committees is advising the people not to travel to mountain areas unnecessarily as warmer temperatures have increased the risk of further snow-slides in the country.

Tajikistan has witnessed hundreds of avalanches this year.
