Torrential rain and a squally wind that hit many regions of the country in the night of April 29 have caused serious damage to Khujand, the capital of the northern province of Sughd.

“The storm was so powerful that it uprooted dozens of large trees and damaged power transmission lines,” Mamourkhon Yusufov, a spokesman for the Khujand Administration, told Asia-Plus in an interview.

Fortunately, no injured was reported, according to the source.

Yusufov says a special commission has been set up to ass the actual damaged caused by the disaster to the city.
