On persons killed and four others wounded on August 4 as a helicopter of the Main Border Guard Directorate of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) crashed in the Vanj district of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), a reliable source told Asia-Plus Thursday afternoon.
The accident reportedly took place in the afternoon not far from Poi Mazor village when MI-8 helicopter of Tajikistan’s border service tried to land on the Khirson (Bear) Glacier.
The helicopter was reportedly sent to rescue Russian tourists who were stuck on the glacier, the source added.
The Khirson (Bear) Glacier is an Alpine glacier in Tajikistan. The glacier is located on the western slope of the Academy of Sciences Range at the heart of the Pamir Mountains in the Vanj district of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO).
