DUSHANBE, August 19, 2016, Asia-Plus -- The Main Directorate for Execution of Punishments at the Ministry of Justice of Tajikistan has denied the report about use of torture against the jailed deputy leader of the Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan (IRPT), Mahmadali Hayit, as “baseless.
“This report is absolutely unfounded,” Ilhom Mahmoudov, the deputy head of the Main Directorate for Execution of Punishments told Asia-Plus in an interview.
“Mahmadali Hayit does not have any health problems and not torture has been used against him,” Mahmoudov said, noting that all those rumors are baseless.
“If Hayit’s relatives apply officially, we will investigate these rumors,” he added.
Meanwhile, Hayit’s wife, Savrinisso Jourayeva, has told Asia-Plus that she knew about the fact that her husband is allegedly undergoing torture from media.
Some social networks and media outlets have released a report that the jailed IRPT deputy leader Mahmadali Hayit is undergoing torture in detention facility and he is now feeling worse.
Recall that two deputy heads of the banned Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan have been sentenced to life imprisonment while several others have received lengthy jail terms.
The Supreme Court of Tajikistan delivered life sentences to the deputy IRPT heads Saidumar Husaini and Mahmadali Hayit on June 2.
Eleven other IRPT leading members and activists were sentenced to jail terms ranging from 14 to 28 years.
Zarafo Rahmoni, the only woman in the high-profile trial who worked as a legal adviser to the party’s leadership, was sentenced to two years in prison.
