Former official with Amonatbonk (Tajikistan’s savings bank), Salohiddin Zoirzoda, has got a lengthy jail term for large-scale embezzlement.

A court in Dushanbe’s Ismoili Somoni district sentenced Zoirzoda to 14 years in prison on December 10, according to the press center of the Prosecutor-General’s Office.

He was found guilty of abuse of office and document forgery.  Zoirzoda will serve his term in a high-security penal colony. 

The Prosecutor-General’s Office says Zoirzoda embezzled some 580,000 somoni from January 20 to May 18, 2018 by means of falsifying documents.

After dismissal, Zoirzoda illegally got into Amonabonk’s head office, falsified documents and embezzled more than 341,000 somoni.

Zoirzoda has reportedly reimbursed 921,038 somoni and 70 diram to the state.
