DUSHANBE, March 16, 2011, Asia-Plus -- Mr. Shukurjon Zuhurov, Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament), Tuesday evening met here with Mr. Pierre Morel, the European Union (EU) Special Representative for Central Asia.
Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for the Majlisi Namoyandagon, says issues related to expansion of cooperation between Tajik Parliament and the European Parliament were a major topic of the meeting.
Zuhurov, in particular, noted that Tajikistan attached significant importance to expansion of cooperation with the European Union in different areas, including development of democratic institutions, human rights protection, attraction of investments, development of social sector, management of water-and-energy resources, environmental protection, and security strengthening.
The EU envoy for Central Asia, for his part, expressed satisfaction with the current level of cooperation and noted that the European Union is also interested in development of constructive relations with Tajikistan, Sultonov said.
