DUSHANBE, January 12, 2012, Asia-Plus  -- On Wednesday January 11, Estonian Ambassador to Tajikistan with residence in Almaty (Kazakhstan), Mr. Jaan Hein, presented the copy of the credentials to Tajik Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi.

According to the Tajik MFA information department, the two discussed state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Estonia.

Tajik minister, in particular, noted that appointment of ambassador to Tajikistan was an evidence of a good level of cooperation between the two countries.  He also noted that there was a considerable room for expansion of economic ties.

Zarifi outlined introduction of modern technologies, banking system, education and agriculture as areas of which could drive the bilateral trade between Tajikistan and Estonia.

Meanwhile, Estonia Foreign Minister Urmas Paet arrived in Dushanbe Wednesday afternoon on a three-day working visit.  Estonian minister is scheduled to hold talks with President Emomali Rahmon, Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi and Economic Development and Trade Minister Farrukh Hmaraliyev.

Diplomatic relations between Tajikistan and Estonia were established on February 23, 2006.

President Emomali Rahmon paid a working visit to Estonia on February 13 2009 and his visit resulted in signing of the declaration on cooperation to develop bilateral relations between Tajikistan and Estonia.

According to data of the State Committee for Statistics, a two-way trade between Tajikistan and Estonia in January-October 2011 has valued at US$2.482 million.  This consisted of Tajikistan’s exports to Estonia estimated at US$134,000 and Tajikistan’s imports from Estonia worth US$2.348 million.
