Tajik Defense Minister, Colonel-General Sherali Mirzo, today morning left for Islamabad on an official visit, according to the Ministry of Defense (MoD) of Tajikistan.

“An official visit of Tajik Defense Minister, Colonel-General Sherali Mirzo, to Pakistan begins today.  He will hold talks with Pakistani officials to discuss cooperation between the two countries,” Lieutenant-Colonel Orif Nizomiyon, a spokesman for a MoD, told Asia-Plus in an interview.

While in Islamabad, Sherali Mirzo will meet with Pakistani political and military officials to discuss expansion of military and technical cooperation between Tajikistan and Pakistan, Nizomiyon said.

They will discuss issues related to training personnel for Tajik national army in Pakistan, conducting joint military exercises, exchanging information and exploring experience of each other, the MoD spokesman added.

Military and technical cooperation between Tajikistan and Pakistan reportedly began in 2009.
