On Friday December 13, Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin met in Rome with Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Luigi Di Maio, according to the Tajik MFA information department.

In the course of the talks, the two reportedly discussed state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Italy in various fields.

They also exchanged views on a number of international and regional issues being of mutual interest, including security and environmental problems.

Sirojiddin Muhriddin reportedly invited his Italian counterpart to participate in high-level events scheduled in Tajikistan in 2020, in particular, the next conferences on countering terrorism and challenges of security, and the “International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028.”

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Italy - Central Asia Conference that was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy on the same day.  

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and Italian Republic were established on May 15, 1992.
