During his visit to Moscow, Dushanbe Mayor Rustam Emomali, who is also head of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper house of parliament), yesterday held talks with Mrs. Valentina Matviyenko, Chairperson of the Federation Council (Russia’s upper chamber of parliament).

According to the Federation Council’s official website, the two discussed state and prospects of bilateral cooperation and inter-parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.  

Mrs. Matviyenko reportedly emphasized that “Russia and Tajikistan are strategic partners and relationship between them is developing in many directions.”

She also pointed to the necessity of using more actively the potential of the Commission for Cooperation between the Federation Council and the Majlisi Milli.   

Russian parliamentary speaker underlined the significance of projects on sending Russian teachers to Tajikistan as well as military cooperation between the countries and issues related to providing regional security.  

Rustam Emomali, for his part, noted that Tajikistan attached significant importance to its collaboration with the Russian Federation. 

He also underlined the importance of further expansion of inter-parliamentary ties between the two countries, noting that “the inter-parliamentary cooperation is the basic link of the whole complex of bilateral relations.” 

Touching upon economic topics, Rustam Emomali noted that the trend towards an increase in trade turnover was explained by the expansion of cooperation between the regions of the countries.
