Tajik diplomat Khusrav Noziri has been appointed Deputy Director General of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS). This is reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan.
Khusrav Noziri graduated from the Faculty of Oriental Languages of Tajik State University in 1991, speaks Persian, Russian, English and Arabic, and also holds the diplomatic rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the 2nd class.
From 2019 to 2021, Khusrav Noziri was the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, and from 2021 to August 2024 he served as Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).
The Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) is an international intergovernmental organization whose task is to ensure food security in the countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. The headquarters of the organization is located in Astana. Currently, Kazakhstan is the Chairman of the IOFS.
The Director General of the organization is Kazakh diplomat Berik Aryn.
Among the goals of the IOFS for the next 10 years:
– creation of food security reserves and humanitarian food assistance programs to support OIC countries in crisis situations
- improving the competitiveness of the agri-food industry
- transfer of technical expertise to develop the capacity of the participating States.
The organization unites 42 countries. In Central Asia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan have been full members of the organization since this year.
The Association of Agricultural Academies was established within the framework of the IOFS, the founders of which are Kazakhstan and Tajikistan. The Memorandum of Understanding signed within the framework of the Association between the parties focuses on partnership in the development and application of scientific methods in agriculture. The Member States will exchange effective tools for the development of the agro-industrial complex.
It is planned to share best practices and methods of breeding certain animals, such as the Kazakh white-headed cattle breed and the Edilbaevsky and Hissar sheep breeds.
In addition, cooperation is envisaged in the field of cultivation of Kazakhstani wheat varieties on specially designated lands.
