On October 10, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon held separate meetings with the leaders of Belarus, Azerbaijan, and Armenia on the sidelines the CIS Heads of State Council session in Dushanbe. According to the Tajik president’s official website, the talks focused on strengthening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation across a range of sectors.
Talks with Belarus: strategic partnership and agro-industrial cooperation
In his meeting with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Rahmon emphasized the strategic nature of the Tajik-Belarusian relationship and expressed interest in further expanding cooperation.
The two leaders discussed strengthening inter-parliamentary relations and boosting trade, agriculture, and industrial collaboration. They also agreed to enhance the work of the Intergovernmental Commission and the Tajik-Belarusian Business Council.
In the agricultural sector, both sides addressed increasing exports of fruits, vegetables, and cotton, as well as the creation of joint ventures for agro-processing. Discussions also included cultural, educational, and humanitarian cooperation, as well as joint initiatives in healthcare, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and vocational training.
Strengthening economic ties with Azerbaijan
Rahmon’s meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev focused on inter-parliamentary cooperation, trade, and investment. Key areas included industrial collaboration, the establishment of technology parks, joint activities in free economic zones, and the production of export-oriented goods, especially agricultural products.
Transportation was also a major theme, with both leaders highlighting the importance of regular air connections and the use of transit corridors for cargo transport. In the cultural and humanitarian fields, they discussed hosting cultural days and expanding educational programs for Tajik students.
Dialogue with Armenia: trade, energy, and regional engagement
During talks with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Rahmon underscored the importance of strengthening ties and reiterated Tajikistan’s interest in broadening cooperation across all sectors.
The two sides explored opportunities in trade, investment, green energy, industrial development, and industrial cooperation. They stressed the need to invigorate the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation.
Other key topics included boosting trade volumes, expanding mutual commerce, organizing trade forums, and enhancing parliamentary dialogue. Cultural, educational, youth policy, and tourism initiatives were also discussed, alongside joint efforts within international and regional platforms, including the UN, with mutual support for global initiatives.
A shared commitment to regional partnership
All three meetings reflected the high level of cooperation between Tajikistan and its CIS partners and confirmed a shared commitment to deepening bilateral relations, the Tajik presidential press service reported.
