DUSHANBE, August 17, Asia-Plus - Tajik MPs have unanimously endorsed a bill on amnesty. 

An extraordinary session of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) presided over by its head, Saydullo Khairulloyev, was held on August 17.

The deputies of the Majlisi Namoyandagon discussed only one issue - the draft law on amnesty. 

Mr. Shermuhammad Shoyev, Tajik President Rahmonov’s representative to the Majlisi Namoyandgon, presenting the draft law noted that amnesty declared under that law applied to women, minors, elderly people, veterans of war, 1- and 2-group invalids, as well as foreign, who were convicted for the first time. 

He noted that the amnesty did not apply to prisoners, who are serving their for grave and especially grave crimes, as well as for killing two and more persons and committing crime in prison.      

            Under the amnesty law the amnesty should be finished within six years after singing of the law by the president and official publication in the state-run newspaper “Jumhuriyat”.  

            The amnesty law was adopted on occasion of the 15 th anniversary of Tajikistan’s Independence.
