DUSHANBE, January 17, Asia-Plus - Tajik President Emomali Rahmonov yesterday met in Beijing with a group of Tajik students studying at China’s higher educational institutions, Abdufattoh Sharipov, a spokesman for the Tajik president, reported from Beijing.

The meeting focused on conditions of life and studying of Tajik students in China.

An annual quota allotted by China for Tajik students increased from 5 people in 1995 to 26 people this year.  Next year, this figure is expected to reach 30, according to the spokesman.

At present 63 Tajik students are studying various disciplines, including economics, diplomacy, journalism, telecommunications, as well as the Chinese language, at higher educational institutions in China.

“During the meeting, Rahmonov ordered relevant Tajik officials to organize satellite broadcasts of Tajik television for Tajik students in China, as well as operationally resolve problems facing Tajik students studying in this country,” the spokesman said.
