DUSHANBE, March 6, Asia-Plus - At all stages of history of the Tajik people women played an important role in development of culture and civilization, President Rahmonov remarked at a festive meeting in Dushanbe on March 6.
The meeting was dedicated to International Women’s Day, which is marked on March 8.
Rahmonov noted that the government is undertaking efforts to raise role of women in society. The president termed the program for bringing women into the government, establishment of women’s magazine Bonuvoni Tojikiston (Women of Tajikistan), opening of hostel for female students studying at higher educational institutions in Dushanbe by presidential quota, grant projects for development of open civic society institutions as example of that.
“Since 1997, more than 6,000 female students from remote mountain areas have studied at higher educational institutions in Tajikistan by presidential quota,” the president said.
He said that the government strives for resolving problems facing women in the country through adopting relevant laws, bringing women into the government and taking efforts to reduce maternity and infant mortality rates as well as provide gender equality.
“To develop civic society institutions 20 grants for a total amount of 150,000 somonis have been provided this year,” Rahmonov said.
President Rahmonov stressed an important role of women in fostering of rising generation.
He also pointed to the importance of the study of Tajik literary language, history and culture of the Tajik people.
