DUSHANBE, June 7, Asia-Plus -- Former Tajik Ambassador to Russia Safar Safarov, who has taken seat representing the Jomi district in the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) by winning in a May 20 by-election, yesterday was elected as the First Deputy Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon, replacing Abdulmajid Dostiyev, who was appointed Tajik Ambassador to Russia, Asia-Plus has learned at the Majlisi Namoyandagon press service.
Safar Safarov, 60, is member of the People’s Democratic Party of Tajikistan (PDPT). He graduated from Tajik Agricultural Institute. In 2002-2007, he was Tajik Ambassador to the Russian Federation. Before that he had served as head of President’s Executive Office.
We will recall that Abdulmajid Dostiyev was elected to the Majlisi Namoyandagon on the basis of party slate (PDPT). On the PDPT list of deputies of the lower house, he was replaced by Habibullo Nozirov.
Besides, former Interior Minister and member of the PDPT, Khumdin Sharipov, who won in an April 1 by-election in the Kulob district, was yesterday elected the head of the Majlisi Namoyandagon Committee on Constitution, Legislation and human Rights, replacing Sherkhon Salimov, who was appointed to head the anticorruption agency.
