DUSHANBE , September 3, Asia-Plus -- On Saturday September 1, President Emomali Rahmon paid a short working visit to the Rasht district in eastern Tajikistan .

According to presidential press service, during his stay in the district, the president visited areas that had been affected by a tremor that hit Rasht on July 22. 

Emomali Rahmon also participated in a groundbreaking ceremony for construction of a new school in the tremor-hit village Kulob in the Qalai Surkh jamaot of the district.  .

Presidential press service said that due to the government funds and assistance provided by international organizations active in the country more than 240 tons of food products, 326 tents, 200 tons of cement, 110 cubic meters of timber and other relief supplies had been delivered t the tremor-hit areas.  Besides, 730,000 somonis were allocated from the national budget to provide extraordinary grants to the disaster-affected people, and 50,000 somonis were allocated from the public charity.      

Builders promised to finish construction of the school in the Kulob village and two schools in the villages of Langarak and Kalnak by November 15.    

The president also familiarized himself with a progress of construction of a building of the Rasht branch of Tajik National Pedagogical University named after Sadriddin Ayni in Gharm, the administrative center of the Rasht district.  Rahmon noted that 7.135 somonis had been allocated from the national budget this for construction of that building and further 3 million somonis are expected to be provided next year.

We will recall that the earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale hit a number of villages in the Rasht district on June 22, at around 03:344 a.m., killing 3 boys from one family.  207 residential buildings were destroyed completely and more than 1,000 other houses were damage partially by the tremor.  More than 1,500 people were left homeless
