DUSHANBE, November 20, Asia-Plus -- Tajikistan is one of real candidates to join the customs union of the Eurasian Economic Community (EAEC). The EAEC Secretary General Tair Mansourov told journalists in Dushanbe on November 19, following his meeting with President Emomali Rahmon.
He noted that necessary criteria for this are common customs border and single customs rates.
“I informed President Rahmon of a progress of creation of real customs union, which currently includes Belarus, Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation, as well as preparations for a meeting of the EAEC heads of government, which is expected to be held in Moscow on December 21 this year,” the secretary general said.
According to him, they also discussed issues related to further development of processes of elaboration of the concept of rational use of water and energy resources in Central Asia. “It could be also possible to enlist the services of international experts, who could assist with elaboration of the concept,” Mansourov said.
Asked about the issue of lifting visa regime between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, Mansourov said, “it is topical issue, and we are currently studying the issue, but it requires bilateral decision-making.”
