DUSHANBE, January 21, Asia-Plus -- A meeting of the Dushanbe mayor’s office, presided over by its head Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev, was held on January 19.
The meeting, which brought together representatives from the government, senior representatives from the ministries and organizations, as well as representatives from NGOs, public associations and political parties and clerics, summed up Tajik capital’s economic results in 2007.
Speaking at the meeting, Ubaidulloyev noted that Dushanbe’s gross domestic product (GDP) rose 27 percent in the year to December 31, 2007.
Last year, Dushanbe produced a total of 419 million somonis worth of industrial goods, and compared to 2006 the volume of construction works doubled last year.
The meeting heard a report by the capital mayor about the results of work carried out in 2007 and a number of resolutions are expected to be adopted.
Last year, Dushanbe failed to provide increase only in the capital assets, the mayor said.
“Last year, we built housing with an overall space of 77,000 square meters, while the population’s requirements in housing are 528,000 square meters,” Ubaidulloyev said.
Noting that activity of industrial sector is not satisfactory, the mayor gave a six-month period to remove existing shortcomings.
