DUSHANBE, February 4, Asia-Plus  -- On Saturday February 2, President Emomali Rahmon sent a telegram of condolences to his Chinese counterpart, President Hu Jintao, over freezing storms that had killed scores of people in some of China’s provinces, presidential press service said.    

President Rahmon also expressed deep condolences to the families and friends of those who were killed in the storms.  He expressed confidence that efforts taken by Chinese government and people would promote mitigation of effects of the disaster.   

Media report the freezing storms that hit some provinces of China have killed scores of people.  Mobilizing the might of the state, China has deployed more than 300,000 troops and nearly 1.1 million militia and army reservists to get traffic moving and ensure power supplies.  Roads and railways, some of which have been blocked for days, have started to move again, China’s state media said.
