DUSHANBE, March 25, Asia-Plus -- Speaking at a meeting with visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki in Dushanbe on March 24, Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament), Saydullo Khairulloyev called for boosting of relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for the Majlisi Namoyandagon, said that Tajik speaker had noted that Tajik-Iranian parliamentary friendship groups are doing well and that Tajikistan expects parliamentary cooperation to enter active cooperation. He said that the Tajik parliament supports any legislation which would serve promotion of cooperation with Iran.
Khairulloyev and Mottaki reviewed Tajik-Iranian cooperation and issues of mutual interest.
For his part, Iranian minister noted that ties between Tehran and Dushanbe are on growing trend. He added that Tajik president''s visit to Tehran had given new impulse to development of bilateral cooperation between the two countries
Mottaki hoped that the current consultations would lead to practical steps to materialize aspirations of the two presidents.
He conveyed message from Iranian Majlis Speaker Gholam Ali Haddad Adel to his Tajik counterpart and said that the parliamentary cooperation would help activate the economic and industrial sectors to keep up with the political relations.
Mottaki said that parliaments are expected to adopt legislation on trade and tariff to help accelerate trade between the two countries.
The foreign minister briefed the Tajik speaker on the plans to develop cooperation on energy, telecom, transport, trade, radio and television and regional cooperation.
