DUSHANBE, April 25, Asia-Plus  During an address to a joint session of parliament on April 25, President Emomali Rahmon proposed two ideas of using waters of the Lake Sarez as  options to solve the Lake Sarez threat problem.

One of these options is to construct a 360 MW hydropower plant and the other one is using waters of the lake (18 billion cubic meters), “which will be enough for the whole population of the Central Asian region fro ages.”

“We are ready to implement the second project, if neighboring countries accept it,” the head of state said.

The project provides for construction of a water pipeline that would serve all of Central Asia.

We will recall that President Rahmon unveiled the water pipeline initiative, for first time, while addressing the joint session of the parliament last year.

On the agrarian sector, the president pointed to the necessity of effectively using lands.

“Food security can be provided only through increasing production of domestic agricultural goods,” Rahmon said, urging to increase the volume of production of agricultural goods by 16 percent.
