DUSHANBE, July 1, 2008, Asia-Plus  -- State and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the Russian Federation were a focus of a meeting of President Emomali Rahmon with visiting head of Russian President’s Office Sergey Naryshkin that was held in Dushanbe today morning, presidential press service reported.  

During the meeting, President Rahmon noted that construction of the Sangtuda-1 hydropower plant is the result of strategic partnership between the two countries and expressed confidence that such cooperation will expand in the future as well.

The two also exchanged views on other joint projects aimed at enhancement of Tajik energy sector and exploration of oil and gas reserves in Tajikistan .

In the course of the talks, it was noted that after completion of the Sangtuda-1 hydroelectricity project, machines, equipment and builders may be sent to the site for construction of the Roghun hydroelectric power station.

The two expressed confidence that the upcoming official visit of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev to Tajikistan in August will give a new impulse for expansion of bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
