DUSHANBE, July 4, 2008, Asia-Plus - Chairman of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament) Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev met with Mr. Miroslav Jenca, Special Representative of the UN Secretary General and Head of the United Nations Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA), in Dushanbe on July 3.
Shavkat Saidov, an aid to the upper house speaker for relations with media and NGOs, said that Ubaidulloyev had highly appraised contribution of the United Nations to reestablishment of peace and national accord in Tajikistan.
Ubaidulloyev noted that establishment of the United Nations Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia is a timely measure because it is easer to prevent conflicts than overcome their effects. “Besides, Ubaidulloyev noted that international experience shows that all countries of the world, irrespective of the level of development and place held in the globalization process, may develop only on the basis of principles of co-existence, cooperation and mutual understanding,” the aid said.
The upper house speaker also expressed wish that the UNRCCA jointly with other UN agencies operating in the region should use its potential for promoting reestablishment of peace and improvement of the socioeconomic situation in neighboring Afghanistan.
For his part, Mr. Jenca noted that all expressed wishes will be used for determining the immediate priorities of the Center and cooperation with MPs will expand in the future as well, Saidov said.
