Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament (Majlisi Oli)has has ratified a guarantee agreement on improvement of public transport in Bokhtar (previously known as Qurghon Teppa) that was singed between the Government of Tajikistan and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in September last year.
A regular sitting of the Majlisi Namoyandagon, presided over by its head, Shukurjon Zuhurov, was held on January 30.
Speaking at the session, the Minister of Finance Fayziddin Qahhorzoda noted that the EBRD would provide 10.8 million U.S. dollars for implementation of the project. 3.2 million U.S. dollars of this amount will be provided in a form of grant, the minister said.
Besides, the Bank will provide 1.6 million U.S. dollars in technical assistance in the framework of implementation of the project.
The funds will be used to acquire up to 40 new low-level-entry buses, which will improve access and comfort for people with special needs and elderly passengers.
They will also finance the construction of a bus depot and the introduction of an integrated e-ticketing system.
This will help Bokhtar transport services improve its operational and financial performance as well as provide a modern fare collection system based on best international practice.
